Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the race?

The Suffolk County Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K races start and finish in Patchogue, New York, on Long Island’s South Shore.

Where should I park?

Parking will be available for runners at the St. Joseph’s College lots. All Vehicles MUST arrive via the Sunrise Hwy Service Rd entrance. Once you arrive you will be directed accordingly.

Shuttles to the race site will be running from 6:00AM08:15AM

Shuttles will be running return trips to St. Joseph’s College parking lots from 09:00AM3:30PM. Pickup will be at the Brookhaven Dialysis Center.

Is the course very hilly?

Not at all. Both the Marathon and Half Marathon, as well as the 10K and 5K, are almost entirely flat, with a minimum of turns. In fact, both the 10K and 5K include only ONE turn.

When does online registration close?

 October 25, 2019 at 1 p.m.

Is there day of race registration?

Only for the 5K

How do I change from marathon to half; or half to full; etc.

Before 9/27/2019 you may login to your RunSignUp account and change races for no fee when changing to a race that is less expensive. When changing to a race that is more expensive, the difference in registration fee will be charged. After 9/27/19 you can only change races at the Expo. There are no refunds when changing to a race that is less expensive. There WILL be a $10 charge to change races at the Expo.

Is this race a Boston qualifier?

Yes, it is a 2021 Boston Qualifier.

I can't run. Can I transfer my registration to another person?

No. Person to person bib transfers are NOT allowed. Please do not illegally give your bib to someone if you cannot run. This ensures athletes are properly accounted for in the appropriate age groups as well as properly registered in the event of a medical emergency. Please be aware giving or selling your bib could be cause for disqualification from future events.

I just found out I won't be able to run. Can I get my money back?

Unfortunately, as every registration is considered a donation to our local veterans, no refunds will be available.

If I register for the full marathon, can i decide during the event to only run the half?

No. All registration changes need to be made prior to the event with the registration staff at the Expo. Failure to complete the event you registered for will result in a disqualification (DQ).

I am a blind athlete. Can I participate with a guide?

Yes, of course. Please call the office at 516-349-7646 so we can properly accommodate you and your guide.

What awards will be given out?

Every finisher will receive a medal! Awards to first ten male & female in full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K, top three male & female veterans, top three male & female U.S. active armed services. Awards to first three male & female finishers in age-groups:

12 & under (10K & 5K),13-15 (half, 10K, & 5K), 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74,75-79, 80-84, 85 & over,

plus first male and female wheelchair finisher.

Clydesdale Divisions - Men: 185 to 199 lbs.; 200 lbs. and over and

Athena Divisions - Women: 140 to 159 lbs.; 160 lbs. and over.

Where and when is the expo packet pickup?

Where: Packet Pick-up will be held during the Expo at St. Josephs College, Danzi Athletic Center When: Friday, October 25, 2019 - 3pm to 8pm and Saturday, October 26, 2019 - 10am to 3pm

What do I need to know to pick up my bib?

Prior to the Expo Packet Pick Up, you will be emailed your bib number. When you arrive at packet pickup, please go to the table that corresponds with your bib number. All Active Duty/Veteran participants must present Military ID at packet pick up/registration.

Can I have someone pick up my bib and race package?

If you are unable to pick up your packet, you may send a representative to do so. The representative will just need to know the bib number of the person they are picking up for.

I’m not local/I can’t make it to the expo/I don’t have anyone to pick up my bib for me. Can I pick it up on race day?

If you are unable to pick up at the Expo, you can pick up your bib number, shirt and race bag goody items the day of the race, for an additional $25 charge. Your VIP Package can be picked up Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m near the baggage check tent. You will be given this option when registering online.

What am I picking up from packet pick up at the expo?

After picking up your race number (bib), you will be told to pick up your race shirt and race packet from a separate table. Your race “packet” includes: race course information, race day information, including parking.

Can I register for the race at the Expo?

Yes. You can register both days of the Expo. Please note there is a $5 charge to use a credit card when registering at the Expo.

Can I switch races at the expo?

Yes. There is a $10 charge to switch races in any capacity at the Expo.

My name is spelled wrong or my age is wrong can I get this fixed at the Expo?

Any and all changes to incorrect information associated with your registration can be made at the Expo.

Is there a time limit to complete the race?

Yes, there is a 6-hour time limit imposed for ALL races distances as the Suffolk County Police want to reopen the roads. After, the 6 hours all volunteer and aid is cleaned up. While you can always finish the race on the sidewalk after the 6-hour limit, you will neither be timed nor scored, and you will not receive a finishers medal. There will be a trail bus will be running and suggest you allow them to transport you to the finish line if they think you will not make the cutoff. However you can wait at any medical aid station for the trail bus.

Is this race walker-friendly?

Yes. Any races can be walked, run, crawled, hopped, so long as you complete the race you registered for in the 6-hour time limit.

Can I run with a pet or ride a scooter or other riding device?

No, for safety reasons, pets and scooters are not allowed, except for wheelchairs registered in the wheelchair category.

Is there an age limit to race the marathon and half-marathon?

Yes. Marathon athletes must be at least 16 years of age on the race date. Half-Marathon athletes must be at least 13 years of age on the race date.

Is there and age limit for the 10K or 5K?

There is no age limit for the 10k or 5K. If the athlete is a minor, it is up to the discretion of the parent. Parents signature is required for minors.

Where can I find my results?

Live results will be being uploaded to Immediately following the race, there is a results trailer a walk down from the finish line where you will have the ability to get a personal print out of your results as well as see results on the televisions inside of the results trailer.

What are the race giveaways?

The marathon participants will be receiving a long sleeve tech shirt. The half marathon and 10K participants will be receiving a short sleeve tech shirt. The 5K participants will be receiving an ultra-soft cotton short sleeve shirt.

Where can I find my race photos?

Race photos will be available at Long Island Running Photos.You will be emailed a link after the race.

Are you selling race gear?

Yes! This gear can be purchase during registration online or at the Expo, or at the race.

Can my friends and family track me while I run?

Yes! We will be using RaceJoy GPS tracking. You will need to run with your phone to enjoy this amenity. More information will be sent out via email.

Will there be pace groups?

Yes, we will have pace groups for the full marathon and half marathon.

Is baggage check available?

Yes. Participants will receive a CLEAR GOODIE BAG at packet pick up, this is the bag you will need for BAG CHECK. There is a tear off on the bottom of a racer’s bib MUST be used to label the bag runners are checking. Baggage check will be located near the main stage area.

What amenities are available on the course?

8 fully staffed medical stations. 12 individual water stops; some of which racers pass multiple times. There is Gatorade available throughout the course at marked water stops. There is no Gatorade in the 5K. BATHROOMS on the course: There will be Port-o-Johns at every medical aid station along the course

Can I use headphones/earbuds?

The rule prohibiting headphones is no longer enforced by USATF; however, GLIRC and the Suffolk Marathon recommend that you do not wear them during the race. Runners' ability to hear and react to situations and directions given by race officials is very important. Your safety is always our topmost concern. Additionally, we want you to enjoy the people cheering for you and the live bands we have on the course for your enjoyment.
